The other big news of the week (at least for our family) is that my little brother returned safely from Iraq. I've heard a few of his stories and they certainly put anything in the fictional universe to shame. He's doing fine and he's probably gained 10 pounds scarfing himself on my mother's chocolate cake and toffee shortbread.
...
Prayers to everyone still out there and to the Iraqis themselves, let's hope the current good news continues.

BTW, in case you're wondering, yes he's my younger brother but he's MUCH balder than me. I have a Dr J Afro at the moment which attracts admiring looks from the local bird population of Saint Kilda who are always on the look out for nesting material.
Also thats the last time I'll quote Roy Batty from Blade Runner in a blog posting, everyone will think I'm obssessed...
He isn't bald at all, and I am sure you are just speaking from a place of envy of his current guiltfree cake eating.
I'm glad for all your sakes that he has returned safely.
Ok
Balding...
Hmmm cake...
Yes, the question is, how bald are you prepared to go for a neverending supply of cake?
My real reason for posting is that I want to promote my v word:
hexhark.
v-words must be up to H now: haker.
Tell your brother welcome home and thanks.
My brother retired this year after 39 years as a Mountie. I always refer to him as my MUCH older brother. Though he does have all his hair.
I'm not surprized, the McFetridges are a hirsute clan.
I remember talking to a guy who was an undercover RCMP which really disappointed me, I just assumed that they went round in the bright red uni all the time.
BTW I forgot to mention about Larne even getting there can be bad news.

I wont swap hair for cake. One time I had a hair cutting "accident" and to rectify it I had to go skinhead and my god I looked like an escapee from a mental institution. Not a good look for me. The only plus was that I got served VERY quickly at the bar.
Being served quickly at a bar would seem to compensate for much. I think maybe you aren't looking at the whole thing rationally enough...
This week has brought very good news for my family also-my mom had the results of a series of tests and all the values-including the tumoral markers (she had breast cancer)-are safely back in the norm.
So,since tuesday was also my birthday,we did celebrate a lot- not only cakes,a lot of courses-and probably gained a few pounds each.
-everyone,expecially after a certain age, should check regularly for breast and prostate cancer.
v word:reacha
Ciao,
Marco
Amen to that brother.
My own mum just got her 1 year clear two weeks ago.
Scanning is easy and takes no time at all and can save your life.

The downside of the skinhead look - you can never hail a cab.
Adrian
glad to hear your younger, but follicly-challenged, brother is home safe and sound.
-Brian
Good news about your brother. And whatever your mom's cooking won't fix or fatten, repetitive pint consumption will do the trick.
Sam
And my sister owns a pub so there might be one or two on the house.
Brian
Thanks man, we appreciate it.
The downside of the skinhead look - you can never hail a cab.
Unless you own something we Americans like to call a hat.
Good news about both your mothers, Marco and Adrian, and way to put a little health announcement in for all our benefit. And Happy Birthday, Marco!--seems like it must have been a particularly good one.
Great news with your brother back safely and you and Marco's mothers all clears.
This is obviously a good week as my son won an award this week and he is very very bald which makes me feel very old.
And Happy Birthday, Marco!--seems like it must have been a particularly good one.
Thanks! Yeah,it was really something -the cancer was caught very early on and the prognosis was good from the start, but a year long of therapy hasn't been easy.
I had to go skinhead and my god I looked like an escapee from a mental institution
you could have made a photo and used it for the books, then.
and he is very very bald which makes me feel very old.
It's all a question of wearing your baldness proudly:ask Sinead O'Connor.
Seanag
Hat. Good call. Too late now of course.
Uriah
Congrats on the award. Maybe he's just fashionably bald.
Marco
I'm trying to get an author photo together in which I look LESS insane. (It hasnt been easy.)
Maybe you could get your brother to pose for it.
Seanag
That might be too far. When I used to work at B&N there was a large amount of dissonance between author and author pic, sometimes shockingly so. I wont name names but you can probably guess from your own experience in SC.
But that's the beauty, Adrian. People are used to author's headshots looking nothing at all like them.
Actually, it would probably be best if you just kept the DIWMB pic. Then, when you go on author tour, people will be pleasantly surprised that you are actually approachable. Oz must agree with him, they'll say. Must be those beloved possums working their magic.
Excellent!
Susan
Good to hear all that good family news.
Uriah, is your son as bald as McKinty?

Thanks Peter
A versatile "thanks," that: heartfelt for the first part of my note, with raised eyebrows for the second, I presume.
I'd have said thank God your brother is back and safe, only I haven't yet determined whether God exists.

Wait a second, let's not get rumours started here, its my little brother that's thinning. My hair is as thick and healthy as Homer Simpson's in those flashback episodes to his teenage years (which used to be the early 70's but if the chronology is to work must be the late 80's)Yes Homer is now completely bald, but I'm hoping to avoid his fate. Look at Donald Trump, no, wait, bad example.
